INTRODUCTION

Over the years, we've published a good bit of Mark Cunningham's work. An online chapbook in 2006, another in 2009 with photographer Mel Nichols, and a print project in 2011. If I understand these academic poetry terms—which I don't—much of Mark's work is "language poetry." I find I am drawn by the abstractness of this kind of work. For me, as a reader of poetry, I sometimes think of highly abstract poetry as an act of defiance against THE question asked of poets: "What does it mean?" I don't know about you, but I find reality and meaning confusing. I find confusion comforting.

It was a non-confusing comfort to work with poet Mark Cunningham on this project.
